Future Prospects provides an easy access point for people to start or build on their learning. We enrol for all of the courses at York College, City of York Council, Askham Bryan College, Flexible Learning Centres and many other providers. We provide impartial advice on the courses available and our primary goal is to help find the right course for you.

If you are returning to learn, looking for work or want to build some confidence, we have a range of first step courses which develop your skills and give you a better idea of your learning or work potential. After these courses, free advice is available from experienced advisers on what you can do next.

All courses provided by Future Prospects are free of charge and many people are entitled to reductions from other providers, depending on their personal situation.

A range of workshops and short courses are offered and they continue to be popular. These are reviewed regularly to ensure they are meeting the needs of clients. The current programme includes;

- CV workshop
- Interview skills
- Application forms
- Covering letters
- Job search using the internet workshop

Confidence building and work preparation courses are also popular and the Making Choices course has accreditation from the Open College Network.

Future Prospects has also piloted “Real Times, Real Lives”, a new practical course designed to prepare people for the world of work.

The Learning Festival 2008 held on the 27th June to 5th July has been hailed as a great success. Offering residents of York the opportunity to try out courses and activities that they may not have thought about before and to find out information about courses and programmes starting in September 2008.

The focus for the festival this year was on reading, as part of the National Year of Reading. With events for all to participate in the Big Read in St Sampson’s Square on Friday 27 June.

All taster sessions featured in the brochure were offered free of charge with Future Prospects acting as the central booking point.
